Crossrail adds to its development team

Cross London Rail Links Ltd (CLRL), the company leading the Crossrail project to build a new rail line across London, from Maidenhead to Shenfield and Abbey Wood, continues to build its development team with the appointment of Corderoy/Franklin & Andrews JV and E C Harris as quantity surveying consultants (QSC).

The QSCs will be responsible for producing the detailed cost estimate for the project based on the designs prepared by multi-disciplinary consultants.

Corderoy/Franklin & Andrews will be responsible for the cost estimate for central and south east sections of the project and E C Harris the surface railway works to the west and north east.

CLRL Executive Chairman, Douglas Oakervee, OBE, said: ‘These appointments represent a further major step forward in the plan to deliver Crossrail, and unlock the wide range of benefits it will provide.

‘After a rigorous and competitive procurement process we have appointed a first class and highly experienced team of quantity surveying consultants.

‘These consultants will play a key role in developing an affordable project, and although the challenges before us are significant I believe that we have established a team that is skilled and motivated to deliver.’

These consultants will join Crossrail’s existing development team which is led by Bechtel and already includes Scott Wilson Railways, Mott Macdonald, Taylor Woodrow, and Halcrow.

Corderoy and Franklin & Andrews commented: ‘We have combined our unrivalled expertise and experience to support Crossrail on this major underground infrastructure project in London. We are delighted to be working on this exceptional, challenging and exciting project which will be a unique enhancement to the transport network.”

Stuart Webb, EC Harris' Rail Sector Leader commented ' The EC Harris infrastructure team is excited about being involved with another major infrastructure project in the UK which will provide major benefits to the London and UK economy.

‘We believe that our involvement in the project will allow us to bring to bear innovative techniques and experience from similar projects to achieve the client team's objectives and for us to continue developing our reputation of “Delivering better value results for Clients”.’

The development team will be located at Crossrail’s offices in Victoria, London, and be responsible for preparing an affordable reference design for the project, which will form the basis for construction, possible once the Crossrail Bill has received royal assent and become an Act.

The Crossrail House of Commons Select Committee is currently considering petitions concerning the Crossrail Bill.

When it has reported, the Bill will be considered by the House of Lords, and when both the House of Commons and House of Lords have agreed on a final wording of the Bill, it will receive royal assent and become an Act.
